Sale Season

Sale season started this year on 3 January. It will last more or less (depending on the whims of the individual shopkeeper) until the end of February. Stores mark down their wares anywhere from 20% to 75%. Controversy always arises around the issue of the TRUE NATURE of these discounts. Every year some merchants are found to have raised the supposed "full price" so as to offer what seems to be a fantastic discount, but, in fact, is not such a great deal.

These photos were taken in the town center. Here I would imagine that merchants are doing their best to offer honest discounts as they are under great duress from the competition created by the large new shopping center on the edge of town. During the past few weeks the traffic around the mall has been so bad that cars are even backed up onto the highway.

I love the sales, you can make good bargains! By the way I got a lovely coat at Sisley for half its price!
Here we already have spring collection in the shops but I don't feel like even looking at it, FGS, let me enjoy my warm coat!!!

That traffic sounds like ours around malls every weekend! Hope you got some good bargains! ;)

Same here! Not allways a metà prezzo but almost...

I like the concept of a 'meta price'. I am sure that's not what meta prezzo means but I like the literal translation.

Backed up traffic is almost unheard of here especially going to shopping malls. Lots of the stores in malls have already closed. No business.

I agree with you on the discounts. When is a sale truly a discount?

I'm with you, Valeria, I can't think about the next season's clothes until that season arrives. But, often, things get sold out early. Molfettans plan ahead!

Hilda - I hate traffic. If I'm going to the mall I try to do it at a less popular time of day.

JM - the size of the discounts vary widely here, too.

Abraham - we have our own economic crisis over here, but you wouldn't know it judging from the traffic around the mall!

Cafe - it's always a mystery...how much are you *really* saving. You save the most by staying at home!
