Behind Bars

How many of you have bars on your windows?

part of mediterranean life, i suppose. most windows ahve shutters or bars, but the trend these days is to build new houses with huge balcony windows without any shutters or bars, creating a more open living space with an indoor-outdoor flow. some people are now seeing this as making it easy to burgle a house...

in any case, the strong mediterranean sun makes it necessary to shade your house, and shutters seem to do the job

only one time have I lived in a flat which had bars - the view from inside out, wasn't nearly as attractive as this one. the apartment was on the first floor in an urban neighborhood and that was the norm for that area. the bars probably were the reason I didn't stay in the apartment very long.

not me, I'm on the 3rd floor.
catching up on your posts after a brief absence. are there some leafless trees behind those bars?

You all hit the nail on the head. They are there to keep out burglars. At first they really bothered me, but now I don't even see them any more. And burglary is a big problem here, so actually, I'm glad to have them. Sad, but true...

Knoxville Girl - you made me laugh! Actually, those trees are olives and they have all their leaves, thank you very much! :-)))
