Aerial Views of Molfetta - Molfetta Vecchia

This last aerial view is a closer look at Molfetta's historical center. This is the image that I will be leaving you with for the rest of the month, since by the time you read this post, my family and I will be on an airplane heading to the US to visit family and friends.

For photos from Wild and Wonderful West Virginia, check out my other blog Amid the Olive Trees.

Have a wonderful August...see you back here in September!

Aerial Views of Molfetta - Beach Clubs

Another aerial view...this time of the coastline south of town. In this photo you can see three of the private beach clubs I have shown in other posts this summer. The orange and blue umbrellas belong to Cala Arena, in the center of the photo is the Nautilus Beach Club and at the top of the photo is the Lafayette Hotel and Beach Club.

Aerial Views of Molfetta - Il Pulo

This is the Pulo, Molfetta's neolithic site. From the air you can clealy see how it is a round depression in the midst of an otherwise flat territory. You can also see the cave dwellings in the walls and the gunpowder factory in the center. The structure in the bottom right of the photo is the 16th century monastery.

Aerial Views of Molfetta

I don't often get a chance to fly over Molfetta snapping photos on the wing, but a friend of a friend of mine does! And he was kind enough to let me post the aerial shots I'll be showing you over the next few days.

This shot shows the seafront promenade (bottom left), the regional seminary (center left), the historical center (center right) - and here you can really see how it was once an island - and the commercial and tourist harbours (upper right). You can also get a feel for how very flat the land is around here.

Molfettan Faces - Paolo Lunanova

Paolo Lunanova is a Molfettan artist. For a look at some of his paintings, click here. He looks very serious in this photo, but he's actually a playful and fun guy...so I included the second photo as proof!

Lifeguard at Work

The lifeguard's work is never done. Setting up and taking down beach umbrellas and chairs, emptying the trash cans, changing the little flag from white to red when the seas get too rough, keeping the beach free of garbage, even saving lives from time to time! Here Alessandro is moving stones from one part of the beach to another to create the perfect surface for walking down to the sea.

Monthly Theme Day: Night

The first day of every month is Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community and this month's theme is: Night. I really should have just gracefully bowed out of participating this month because my little point and shoot camera is not quite up to the challenge of nighttime photography. But I like the colors of these remains of a sunset over the sea, so I hope you will enjoy the color and try to ignore the grainy quality of the photo! ;-)
