This monument is dedicated to Molfettan "Heroes Who Have Died for Their Homeland," in other words, in war. It was built in 1929 and was meant for those who died during WWI. Unfortunately, there have been so many other conflicts since then. Personally, I'm a pacifist, but I think it is important to remember and honor those who have lost their lives to protect the rest of us.

Nice photo and I join my comment about value of monuments...It is true that they should remind us about awful war times and many victims, but sometimes it seems that we forget about those things and repeat some history mistakes...
I agree with you. I just wish they'd also serve as reminders as to why we shouldn't be fighting in the first place. =(
On a side note, please thank your son — or maybe it should be your son's teacher — for us. Because of his assignment, we're getting some very interesting monuments! :)

Great monument, great photo. What I know about Italy in WWI I read about after reading A Farewell To Arms ... pretty amazing, and sad.
