As promised, a close-up shot of the Madonna and Child carved in stone above the main entryway to Palazzo Nesta. Many noblemen's palazzi have the family crest above the doorway, while some have a rendering of the Madonna, perhaps in a sign of piety.

You have a great eye for details, and you never fail to surprise us. How big is Molfetta? Do you get a lot of tourists?
A serene Madonna with child, both a bit on the plump side, a clear sign of other times.
We also have piety, but not so much with regard to the Madonna except in Catholic churches...our pious put stickers on their cars proclaiming their opposition to abortion or warning you that Jesus is coming back soon.
It is fascinating that the church as such really paid little attention to Mary until the latter part of the 4th century...
Hi Lakeviewer, Molfetta has a population of about 63,000. We have very little tourism, unlike Giovinazza just to the south or Trani to the north. The main source of tourism are those emigrants, or children of emigrants, who return to visit the city, especially during the festival of San Corrado in early September.
Poet, thin may be in now, but in the past, I think fat was a sign of being able to eat enough!
Jacob, I don't know about you, but I prefer this stone rendering of the Madonna to a bumper sticker any day! :-)
Oh, I agree, Saretta!
