Acqua e Vino

These are the first spring flowers blooming in the fields around Molfetta. They surely have a proper scientific name, but my husband knows them as "Acqua e Vino" which means "Water and Wine." When he was a child, he and his friends would suck the liquid out of their stems and they thought it tasted like wine diluted with water.

Oh the things we do as children! We've got a weed in the midwestern part of the US called something like Indian tobacco...we'd crumple the leaves and try to smoke it...quite unsuccessfully, I should add!

Beautiful flowers, though!

I remember something like this, but I'm not sure about the flowers, I can't remember them. The picture is beautiful and spring is in the air...

Wow, I have just seen them on another blog! They named it "Oxalis". It's funny to read your husband calls them Acqua e Vino... In my comment on the other blog I wrote that they reminded me of my childhood, when we used to pick them and chew the gambo (shank?)which is juicy and aspretto... I didn't dare to write which was the name as we used to call them...it was piscia a letto...

Hurrah for Spring. I have been looking around for any Spring flowers but there's still too much snow.
