This is the Pulo, Molfetta's neolithic site. From the air you can clealy see how it is a round depression in the midst of an otherwise flat territory. You can also see the cave dwellings in the walls and the gunpowder factory in the center. Wow, what an interesting sight and site. I didn't notice the 'hole in the ground' until you mentioned the depression. I thought it was flat.

This is so very interesting. Never heard of it, so I'm glad for the photos. I did click on the others...can't imagine living in caves, but they were probably the cat's meow at one time.

When I visited, this site was closed to the public. I wish I would have been able to visit and learn about it. The depression is very interesting to me, any explanation?
LaGrasta, the Pulo is now open to the public and there are fascinating guided visits on weekend mornings. The formation is basically a big sinkhole. For more information on sinkhole check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinkhole
