A public telephone is something that's hard to find anymore in Molfetta. Italians really took to the cellular phone with a gusto. Everyone has one...and I do mean everyone, from grade school children to octogenarians.
As a result, the public telephone became almost immediately obsolete. The few you can find around town are generally broken or looking pretty shabby, like the one in this photo. I don't think I'd want to use this means of communication without disinfecting it first!

A common sight here too. Its a shame we don't need the phone booths anymore.
I think it's a world wide phenomenon, not just in Italy. It's one of those things that if you see a movie and there are pay phones you'll be able to instantly date it. And our kids will wonder what those funny things were ever used for.
I have seen a couple of (smashed) booths just yesterday...
Soon, they will be in museums as curiosity exhibits. Times change,
It's the same in Greece, however I've seen people use public phone booths in London - and I even used one myself just a couple of days ago!
can't remember last time I walked by one that actually worked! kudos on finding one that looks operational!
